Ashtray, Sarah Crowner
2016
Ceramics
Edition of 100
Crowner sees an element of theater in her sculptures and paintings. Standing as either backdrops or diagrams for performance, ‘they offer the idea that a painting or a sculpture might function as a proposal for something else.’ It then follows that her contribution to Kunstverein’s edition series is a remake of a found ashtray, discovered amongst thousands of others on eBay’s endless online catalogue. Upon its arrival on her doorstep, Crowner got 100 replicas made in Mexico and sent them on to us for you to enjoy. Astray-cum-sculpture, or simply still an ashtray. Either way, this time the proposition is yours.
