Barstool from Kunstverein infamous speak easy bar, BYU, designed by Robert Wilhite.
Robert Wilhite (1946) has worked as an artist and designer for over 46 years. From presenting a work to an audience in the form of hypnosis, to the creation flatware company, Wilhite has channeled both the principles of modern design and conceptual art into a varied practice that evades easy categorization.
In 2014, Wilhite incorporated De Stijl/Constructivist design into the interior and program of "Bobs Your Uncle" – a sneaky speakeasy style bar built directly into Kunstverein. BYU brought you a special host and special servings every Thursday evening from 2014 until 2016, giving many nascent artists and performers some of their first public presentations in the Netherlands. BYU was succeeded by KW Berlin’s Pogo Bar in 2016.
Wilhite continues to work from his studio in Los Angeles. His artworks and designs are included in the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, New York City; MOMA, NYC; LACMA, Los Angeles; Centre Pompidou, Paris, France; the Jumex Collection, Mexico City; and MAMCO, Geneva, Switzerland.
